1.0's release was not up to par. This update should hopefully fix quite a number of issues with the initial release. Unfortunately, this update does come with some oddities:
1. Potential crash on level 4
- I am pretty sure I fixed/mitigated this, but there is a possibility that the game will crash at the start of level 4. This happened to me once during testing and I was unable to recreate it, so I had to sort of just guess the reason for it.
2. Potential material oddity on level 1
- Once, for no apparent reason, the console gave errors about "$glint" on Quinton's eyes, causing them to display as missing. This issue has never been recreated.
Files
Erick Chekov Decker is back! And this time, he's got some Holiday Cheer to spread.
(That's you, by the way.)
Up at the Wolfcl0ck Production Vacation Cabin in snowy Dallas Illinois, Sean and co have begun to settle in for the season. However, when everything goes awry just before the holiday dinner, it's up to you, grizzled robot war veteran Erick Chekov Decker, to find a solution.
Equipped with wartime knowledge, Erick is a genius Tactician, specifically when the tactic is "whack things with a hatchet."
1. Decompressing the mod may take 3+ minutes.
Sorry! The Source Engine is not a very stable engine. I had compressed the download by packing most assets into vpk files. Unfortunately, however, this caused a consistent crash when loading into the final level. 1.0 has files all over the place. Don't touch anything already in the "custom" folder.
As of version 1.1, this should no longer be an issue.
2. This is still The Source Engine, it is prone to random crashing.
I have not found any crashes that force the player to restart their save. However, There have been inconsistent crashes with no known source. Please understand I have tried my best to mitigate crashing without negatively affecting gameplay.
As of version 1.1, all known crashes have been resolved. If you crash for any reason, please let me know and I will look into it.
3. This mod is made for HDR mode.
The mod will default to HDR. Do not set it to run in LDR mode. If I could remove the LDR option from the options menu, I would. The maps are NOT compiled with LDR lighting.
- NPC Navigation on Levels 1 and 5 are sometimes inconsistent. NPCs will be automatically teleported for most important sequences. If an npc stops following you, try walking back to them.
- Fast Headcrab corpses will go flying. I could easily fix this but it is so much funnier the way they are right now.
I intend to fix any remaining crashes and bugs after the New Year for the Dev Commentary update.
1. Install Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer on Steam
- steam://rungameid/243730
2. Set Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer to the "upcoming" beta
- right click Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer in Steam, select "properties," click "betas," and set "beta participation" to "upcoming"
3. Open "wcholiday23.zip"
- Just double click the file
4. Drag and drop "wcholiday23" into "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\"
- The files were set up specifically for drag and drop, not decompressing. "Gameinfo.txt" should be in "sourcemods/wcholiday23/," not "sourcemods/wcholiday23/wcholiday23."
