Rain particles in demos

Hi, I've been trying to get functioning rain in demo files for maps that wouldn't otherwise have rain.

I have edited the maps in hammer to have various types of rain particles as well as rain brushes and it never plays back in demos.

I spoke to one person who over 10 years ago used a pcf file that triggers rain when a weapon explosion happens, which actually worked in demos but it doesn't seem to function anymore.

how would I go about recreating a pcf/script like that or where could I commission it?
